Remembering Marie Clay

One year ago today on April 13, 2007, Marie Clay passed away in Auckland New Zealand.
Somehow it feels right to choose this day for my first Blog of 2008, in memory and celebration of Marie’s legacy.
Marie Clay
Last year, Graham McEwan, Chair of the Marie Cay Literacy Trust wrote;

‘Marie’s decision to focus on struggling learners and the resulting development of the
Reading Recovery early intervention changed how the education community worldwide viewed these children’s chances of becoming literate....
In awarding Marie the first ‘New Zealander of the Year’ award in 1994, the judges described her as a person who had a dream of improving the lives of others, although never seeking personal reward or recognition.'

Marie Clay - we remember you today!

The news from Inquiryschools is that the first movie for 2008, will be ready to post in May. It focuses on a process for internal moderation of writing within a school. The second series will follow an Early Childhood teaching unit from start to finish, and the third series, to be filmed in June, looks at inquiry learning in mathematics. The final series for the year will look at 'school sustainability' with the possibility of some final footage on a Grade 5 Exhibition.

Have an excellent educational year in 2008, everyone and please do share the free movies from the site.

Cheers,

Sherryl
